South Dakota

I just visited my first bucket-list item since starting this blog!  After wanting to see Mount Rushmore for years, I can finally say that I’ve been and seen it (and it is amazing).  Here are a few highlights from our trip.

After 6 long hours in the car, we started our South Dakota adventure in Rapid City.  Downtown Rapid City is really cute (although I cannot say the same for the rest of the city), and previous presidents adorn the streets on each corner.

We discovered Art Alley while walking to our haunted hotel for the night (sadly, no ghost stories came from this trip).

We were exhausted, and after enjoying a very expensive cocktail on the roof of our hotel, we passed right out.  The next morning we wasted no time in heading to Mount Rushmore.  It was just as beautiful and awe-inspiring as I hoped it would be.  Of course, we couldn’t see Mount Rushmore without seeing Crazy Horse as well.  We finished the day by hiking and fishing Custer State Park.

The next day we discovered the town of Deadwood.  Oh, how I love Deadwood!  It was a quaint old western gambling town.  We ate on parapet rooftops, stayed in another haunted hotel, and soaked in the history of this notable town.

It was a wonderful couple of days!  My love for the Black Hills has been solidified, and I cannot wait to someday go back.
